Looking for something a bit different?
One of the most important things we do at Soundhouse is to give new bands a showcase. We're not saying we have the power to break them into the big time but we do try to get in early with artists we really rate.
If we think back to people we've hosted in the past there are quite a few that spring to mind. For example, maybe you were with us when we promoted a tiny house concert for the almost completely unknown Lankum in 2015 or checked out a 20-year-old Malin Lewis playing an online gig during lockdown in 2020. If you were there for of these (and many others), you'll know how nice it is to be in at the start of a fabulous artist's career.
Since that show with Malin (and others) in 2020 we have incorporated showcase events at all of our festivals under the name 'Spotlight'. This year at ‘Edinburgh Tradfest Spotlight’ we have some pretty amazing talent performing. On Sunday 11 May we present a show with three up and coming acts: indy trad band Dlù (see above video), middle eastern combo Parsisonic and etherial singer Miwa Nagato-Apthorp. It is an eclectic mix for sure, but we know our audiences like all kinds of sounds, and to get three such fabulous acts for the price one one, is surely best value at Tradfest this year.
